Tom Hanks, in full Thomas J. Hanks, (conceived July 9, 1956, Concord, California, U.S.), American entertainer whose happy everyman persona made him a characteristic for featuring jobs in numerous well known films. During the 1990s he extended his comedic collection and started depicting lead characters in shows.
After a traveling youth, Hanks studied show at California State University and acted in summer stock in Cleveland, Ohio, playing various old style jobs. In the last part of the 1970s he moved to New York City, where he had a little part in a thriller in 1980.
Hanks acquired notice for his comic capacities as a costar of the TV series Bosom Buddies (1980-82). His work in the hit film Splash (1984) acquired him leads in different comedies, including Bachelor Party (1984), Volunteers (1985), and The Money Pit (1986). He effectively blended parody in with show in Nothing in Common (1986) and Punchline (1988), and his depiction of a kid in a grown-up body in Big (1988) procured him an Academy Award designation and sent off him on the way to becoming one of the period’s most well known stars.
